Joe Byrne
Joe Byrne was born and raised in Sept-Îles, QC and spent a few years in Nova Scotia before moving to PEI to finish his university studies at UPEI. From 1987-93 he lived and worked in Dominican Republic working in barrios around Santo Domingo and in sugar cane worker communities in the eastern end of the country. Since 1993 Joe, and his wife Rosa, have lived in Charlottetown.
Once he moved back to PEI with his family, he became active in various community groups and organizations including the Latin American Mission Program and Cooper Institute, both of which he has been a member of for more than 30 years. His involvement in his community has included advocating and supporting efforts for peace and justice, newcomers and immigration, a guaranteed basic income among many others.
A few years ago, Joe was invited to get more involved in the Arts community and is now a Producer of Anne and Gilbert, the Musical, which has been on stage for more than 20 years on PEI.
For a decade and half Joe’s been a driving education instructor and does training on alternative controls, seniors and those who have experience medical complications with their license.
Joe has spent many years as an NDP activist and has filled almost every role in the party from campaign worker to official agent to leader of the provincial party. The 2025 election will be his fourth as a federal candidate.
